Entertainment

During the 2012 circuit, Saturday nights will be our feature evenings. Every Saturday will feature the Grand Prix at 5:00 pm followed by a free live concert and exhibitor’s party in the Angelstone Pavilion. We are proud to showcase two of the area’s most thrilliing acts, The Test Icicles and the Julian Taylor Band.

Angelstone Lounge Thursdays

Every Thursday night during the Tournaments, Angelstone opens up the bar until the early hours with the hottest music and DJs for a post class mixer. The evening is always a great time to rub elbows with the country’s top riders while enjoying a cocktail in the lounge.

Angelstone Marquee Saturdays

The Test Icicles August 25th / September 29th

A year after the band’s last appearance at Angelstone’s 2011 Tournament, we continue to receive rave reviews about this high energy ensemble of rockers. We have decided to bring them back for 2012 in two engagements on the opening and closing Saturdays of the Tournament. From the driving riffs of Pearl Jam to the uplifting anthems of U2, the band packs a serious wallop and we cannot wait to showcase them to our exhibitors and fans in 2012.

Julian Taylor Band September 1st / September 8th

The Julian Taylor band continues their long standing relationship with Angelstone and is slated to perform two back to back shows in weeks two and three of the Tournament. The band’s roots stem from their union formed in the late nineties through Staggered Crossing, one of the preeminent bands of that era. In 2010, the band opened Angelstone’s Blue Rodeo show in Ottawa and you may remember them bringing down the house at an impromptu after party at the Brookstreet Hotel. The band returns to Rockwood in 2012, with their highly addictive combination of rock n’ roll and groovy soul. JTB is currently regarded as Toronto’s hardest working band and have appeared across the country, playing hundreds of shows per year.

*Angelstone will be providing free shuttle services on Thursday and Saturday evenings from the Delta Hotel to the Showgrounds.

Commitment to Educate

Angelstone Tournaments is proud to announce our new initiative “Commitment to Educate”. Angelstone is a big believer in the importance of Education. In 2012, we will give our two University Scholarships to kids 17 and under in the community. It is important for us to help out the local community, as they are the backbone for our future success.

The scholarships will be awarded in two ways:

  • 1. In 1000 words or less, kids in the community can write in to Angelstone about the struggles they have faced in their life, and what they have done to overcome their struggles. Entries must be submitted to the show office by September 21st. The winner will be announced Saturday September 29th during the Grand Prix of Rockwood.
  • 2. During the National Phase 1, 2 and 3 spectators will get three ballots each during the Grand Prix event. With each ballot they get to choose a rider in the Grand Prix to finish in the top 5. All correct ballots will be entered into a draw, which will take place Saturday September 29th before the Grand Prix. Before the final grand Prix, we will draw an equal number of ballots, as there are entries in the Grand Prix. Each ballot drawn will be paired with a horse / rider combination. The ballot paired with the winning horse / rider of the Grand Prix will be the winner of the Scholarship, and will join us in centre ring for the presentation.

During the Tournaments we will hold a silent auction, and proceeds of the auction will go towards the scholarship fund. We will also accept donations throughout the Tournament Office. Anyone wishing to make contributions can also contact Trella White at trella@angelstone.co.

We hope you join us for this exciting day at the Angelstone International Show Jumping Tournament!

THE FEI CODE OF CONDUCT

FOR THE WELFARE OF THE HORSE

The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) expects all those involved in international equestrian sport to adhere to the FEI’s Code of Conduct and to acknowledge and accept that at all times the welfare of the horse must be paramount and must never be subordinated to competitive or commercial influences.

  1. At all stages during the preparation and training of competition horses, welfare must take precedence over all other demands. This includes good horse management, training methods, farriery and tack, and transportation.
  2. Horses and Athletes must be fit, competent and in good health before they are allowed to compete. This encompasses medication use, surgical procedures that threaten welfare or safety, pregnancy in mares and the misuse of aids.
  3. Events must not prejudice horse welfare. This involves paying careful attention to the competition areas, ground surfaces, weather conditions, stabling, site safety and fitness of the horse for onward travel after the event.
  4. Every effort must be made to ensure that horses receive proper attention after they have competed and that they are treated humanely when their competition careers are over. This covers proper veterinary care, competition injuries, euthanasia and retirement.
  5. The FEI urges all involved with the sport to attain the highest levels of education in their areas of expertise.

A full copy of this Code can be obtained from the Fédération Equestre Internationale, HM King Hussein I Building, Chemin des Délices, 1006 Lausanne, Switzerland. Telephone: +41 21 310 47 47. The Code is available in English & French. The Code is also available on the FEI’s website: www.fei.org.
